The insight about transitions — and the idea of doubling it — is so useful and wise. Thank you, Sophie. And the bird drawing class sounds AMAZING. I am unfortunately working at a Midwestern lunch hour, but I am excited about the recordings. I hope it sells out and there are more to come!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 mmmmm wow this was so needed, because at the same time you were writing and sending this, I was recognizing how much I struggle with transitions! I am just a first grader in a bigger body. Fantastic reflection Sophie! Will be dilly dallying this week.
I adore everything about the essay on transitions. I mean, holy moly, it is so good! I've long acknowledged that I have difficulty with transitions, but I've never heard anyone acknowledge same--let alone offer a beautifully tender and creative adjustment to consider trying. Thank you.
I am wishing I could take live bird drawing class, but have a conflict on that first date, which seems crucial to attend. Awaiting the next offering!
"What are you going to do with a whole hour to get somewhere that’s half an hour away? You can amble. You can find out what it’s like to get there early, and you can find out what it’s like to not rush out the door."
It is utterly amazing and uncanny how these emails are so often exactly what I need to hear. I have been struggling with transitions so much and watching my little one struggle with transitions and wondering why we are both struggling and getting frustrated with us struggling with transitions. I gave myself double the time to get somewhere on Thursday and it was bliss.
In light of supporting a partner through a sudden death I have come back and re-read (actually re-listened) to this and it wrapped me in the type of hug you seem to be able to send digitally through time and space.

Next one will be either evenings or weekends… preference?
Evenings. Though they are hit or miss depending on kid events but in general more likely than weekends 🤞
i am excited & nervous! i just signed up for the live class, have never taken a painting class before, can’t wait to explore a new fun thing!
I’m so so excited to have you! It truly is going to be very small and very chill. Relaxed, fun, ahhhhh.
Loved hearing you laugh about the "12-step" realization <3

dear sophie,
this is beautiful.
this back and forth is a work of art:
“Use context clues to figure it out.”
“WHAT’S CONTEXT CLUES?”
this chunk is a masterpiece:
"What are you going to do with a whole hour to get somewhere that’s half an hour away? You can amble. You can find out what it’s like to get there early, and you can find out what it’s like to not rush out the door."
i love it all!
thank you!
love,
myq
