dear sophie,

i love this as always.

some specific things i love:

-- YOUR love of commutes

-- this phrasing and concept specifically: "I think “a wonderful commute” is the thing I would wish for someone if I was a fairy godmother in an old fable who could bestow mystical gifts onto babies."

-- also this one: "the window helps." (the window DOES help!)

-- this parenthical: "Would “Habit Slut” be a good t-shirt? No. Don’t worry. I know that it wouldn’t be." (i love a good parenthetical, and THIS is a good parenthetical [he said, in parentheses])

-- your love of habits (have you read "atomic habits" by james clear? do you get his very short weekly email that i love? you don't have to! and also you can!)

-- "interruption can be a gift" (thank you for THIS gift! also, i'm responding to this message on a break from a task i was engaging in that i will return to shortly! i'm grateful for the task and the break! like in music, the notes AND the rests. not just a constant wall of sound. PS i heard tim ferriss share something that his girlfriend shared with him that i revisited today and seems relevant potentially here, something like "the task that hinders your task IS your task"

-- "Habits like to have friends." <-- i love the sentiment! i love the sentence! the sentiment and the sentence are friends! (like habits like)

-- "Nothing will be something!" (it so often is!)

-- "Paint a bird." (i just had fun imagining this happening amelia bedelia style. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS AMELIA BEDELIA STYLE UNLESS YOU HAVE BIRD'S CONSENT)

thanks always

love,

myq

PS T has great favorite foods! my mom often talks about how when i was a child, i ate things only from the P food groups. pizza, pasta, peanut butter. and now i'm vegan. so, Plants! i've come a long way back to the same Place.

PPS i love that T can (and does) say WOW. wow.

When I became a vegetarian at age 14, I noticed my diet consisted of P foods - pizza, perogies, pasta! Ah, those teenage junk food years. Grateful that as a grown up vegan I've discovered, and revel in, the vegetable aisle.

Rite: Vegetables is an abused word. We can say cucumbers, and maybe zucchini, and all of a sudden vegetables take on new meaning. a plant or part of a plant used as food, typically as accompaniment to meat or fish, such as a cabbage, potato, carrot, or bean.

"fresh fruit and vegetables

Good comment on "habit slut." It's hard to know when "slut" would go well in any context.

The “Five Things” post kind of blew my mind a little. I’ve kept pondering that idea ever since. I think you’re totally right.

Habits: Morning Pages, and reading a poem right after. I’m not consistent on anything else, but this happens every day. I’m currently working my way through a ginormous book of Adrienne Rich poems, it’s gonna take a long time to finish!

Being consistent with morning pages is really hard! I’m impressed.

Oh my goodness.

*Tyranny of Calendaring*

That is the thing! That is the bane of my existence and yet also the thing I continuously try to honor/attend to.

Can Capitalism just NOT?

Sorry, my best habit is to play wordle in the morning and send my results to my sister and 3 other family members. Then I play games. Then I walk the dog. The difference between habits and chores is I want to do the former.

I recommend listening to Running with Sherman by Christopher McDougall for some of your biking audio.
