dear sophie,

thank you for this and all.

this is a very funny thing to say:

"All that work, just to get someone to ultimately watch “Survivor” with you, or tolerate your farts."

this is a very meaningful thing to say:

"I’ve mostly found my people, and I want to spend my limited time loving them."

this one is both:

"Having new experiences can help you realize what old ones you can metaphysically give to Goodwill"

thank you for all the this and all the all!

love,

myq

The sunk cost fallacy resonates - I spent years thinking that switching to a new therapist would be too hard since my old one already knew everything about me since I put in so much time with her. When she left private practice and I was forced to get a new therapist, turns out they were a million times better for me! Also, I listened to this newsletter. The listening was a reason I signed up, but I have become fond of reading them so now I'm not sure which I like better 🥴

I am listening! It was very nice to listen to this note while I got ready in the morning today. Sometimes I find it hard to find time to actually read the newsletter and then multiple stack up and I feel stressed that I am behind (this is clearly a me problem, I love ALL your content) and this way it would definitely be easier for me to consume! Also it’s even more like you’re my friend and giving me a pep talk 💖

Thanks for this, Sophie!

I, too, am listening... It was great to hear the asides and I feel bad for those who *only* read this newsletter!

You missed out on some great stuff!

(It’s like being IN on an inside joke.)

I was always bad at flirting until I realized the eye contact part of it all. Once, when I was working at a cafe while I was in grad school, I made serious and uninterrupted eye contact with all of the customers. I talked to them the same as I usually would but I just looked them straight in the eyes the entire time.

I MADE SO MANY TIPS THAT DAY!

(And that was not at all the point of the flirting/eye contact.)

All this to say: flirting is fun and beneficial!

Meant to say this: My baby and I listened! I was reading them aloud to her before--because I typically find the time to look at Substack when we are in the nursery glider together or when she is on the playmat. And I’m reading and narrating a whole lot of things now :)
