dear sophie,

thank you for this thorough and thoughtful thing!

(i use the word "thing" for the purpose of alliteration, and now i use this parenthetical to further describe the KIND of thing this is as generous, meaningful, compassionate, and substantial.)

i particularly love this: "I forgot to say this: good luck out there, bravely facing all that breaks your heart."

thank you and love you!

Hmm, do candy cane Joe-Joe's qualify as "a different type of Oreo than regular?" Because they certainly have an obsessive following of folks who stockpile them, including my parents.

The ending times for your gatherings really are a revolutionary affordance. They make me so relieved and happy. Someday I will have the courage to implement them myself. Also, double stuf oreos are what we implicitly mean by “regular,” right?

Of the many wonderful things in this newsletter, the one I'm compelled to comment on is Oreos, of course :) My family members are Oreo connoisseurs -- my kids can vouch for Toffee Crunch and Carrot Cake and Peanut Butter Pie. I love the Peeps ones but recognize I may be alone in that. And my dad may be the sole person on the planet who noticed there was a national Golden Oreo shortage last year?!

Don't forget: Turkey contains natural tryptophan. Or is that myth. Sleep well anyway after a nice meal.

This is such a good list of hosting suggestions - especially the cat thing. I’m not allergic to cats and I don’t have any cats but I see people struggling with this all the time.

My only addition would be to not get your feelings hurt if someone won’t eat literally a single thing you offer them because of dietary restrictions (even if you got something especially for them that they are declining when you were so sure they could eat it!) and don’t tell them how bad you feel about it. We still have a good time at your party!

I think the only other Oreo flavors I've had are the golden ones, mint, and dark chocolate. Definitely not craving any weird flavor combos.

What timing. A friend is accompanying me to my grandmother's memorial; she died at 103 yrs old last month, in her own home where she wanted to be. It's going to be a loaded event so said friend will be driving and we have to leave early (no cleanup duty for me, thanks, perhaps the men could help for a change) for kid pickup so we really and truly cannot stay.

Oh gosh, I don’t think this is what you mean but: I love Oreo thins so much more than Oreos. They’re so crunchy and they’re not bogged down by all that tiresome cream

Hi Sophie!

Where can paid subscribers access the bird painting classes?

Also, I second Jana’s endorsement of Oreo Thins, specifically mint. At first I dismissed them for seeming diet culture-y, but in fact they are just a delicious snack. Very crispy!
